Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Prep 2 6-inch cake pans by lining the bottoms with a round piece of parchment paper.
In a bowl combine your dry ingredients, flour, baking powder and salt in a medium sized bowl and set aside.
In another bowl, beat butter, sugar, oil and vanilla extract together until it is lighter in colour.
Add your eggs one at a time, until it is incorporated.
Slowly add your dry ingredients and milk into your egg, sugar and butte mixture and mix until it is combined and smooth. Do not over mix, once your batter looks smooth stop mixing.
Divide batter between your two cake pans and bake for about 25-30 minutes or until an inserted tooth pick comes out clean.
Remove the cakes from the oven and let cool on rack until you are ready to decorate.
